General Information:

Volunteering is great way to enjoy the Hot August Music Festival! Volunteers receive a complimentary general admission ticket, general admission parking pass, and a commemorative volunteer t-shirt. Volunteers are required to work a 3 or 4 hour shift between the hours of 10am and 10pm. Volunteers may enjoy the festival before or after their shift. Check out our volunteer positions below for more details. All positions and shifts will be assigned before the day of the festival. Shift times are generally assigned by first come, first serve basis. Our volunteers are a significant part of running the Hot August Music Festival. We depend on volunteers to help provide a safe and enjoyable day for all festival goers!

Positions:

The front gate is the main entry point for the festival. Volunteers are responsible for scanning tickets for general admission guests and wrist-banding. Guests will be divided into two lanes when approaching the festival. Those with tickets in hand will go directly to scanners, and those who need a ticket or are on the guest list will to go the will call table before scanning and wrist-banding. A representative from our ticketing company will be there to sell tickets at the door and help with ticketing issues. Each guest will receive a festival program.

The VIP area is located at the front of the main stage to the right (if facing the stage). VIP has their own parking area on the paved lot and uses the VIP entrance to the left side of the lot. Guests will follow the wood staircase up to the VIP entrance. Volunteers are responsible for greeting, scanning tickets, and wrist-banding VIP guests. All guests will need to be ID’d and will receive a festival program.

Volunteers are responsible for serving alcoholic beverages to VIP guests only. The VIP Bar Service is located at the back of the VIP area. No money will be collected- All beverages are free to VIP guests. Please note that we cannot serve alcohol to anyone who is visibly intoxicated.

The ADA area is a roped off area located in the front of the main stage on the left. Volunteers are responsible for assisting ADA guests.

Volunteers will be responsible for one of two jobs: selling beer tickets or providing beers to guests (all beers are canned). No money is collected when providing beers. Simply collect a ticket and provide the requested beer to the festival goer. Please note that we cannot serve alcohol to anyone who is visibly intoxicated. For those who are selling beer tickets, you will be processing cash or credit payments. Credit payments will be processed with an iPad using a Square reader terminal. iPad operation is basic and you will be trained when you arrive for your shift.

Volunteers manage access and verify back-stage passes for access to back-stage area. Back-stage access is located to the left of the main stage (if you are facing the stage).

Volunteers are responsible for pulling merch from stock to sell to festival guests, and/or processing cash or credit payments. Credit payments will be processed using an iPad with a Square reader terminal. iPad operation is basic and you will be trained when you arrive for your shift.

Volunteers are responsible for checking in other volunteers at the check in tent located at the festival entrance. Volunteers will be marked as present and be provided with a wristband and volunteer t-shirt.

Yes, volunteers will be provided with a general admission parking pass before the day of the festival.

The volunteer tent will be located at the main entrance just before the front gate to the festival. All volunteers are expected to be checked in any time between 9:30am and 3:30pm.

No, the festival maintains a no re-entry policy. Please be sure you bring everything you may need during the day of the festival when you enter at the front gate (medications, chairs, hats, etc.).

Sorry, no free beer!

Yes, bottled water will be available to volunteers during their assigned shift. Bottled water will be available for purchase outside of your shift.

Volunteers are only required to wear their volunteer t-shirts during their shift. You will be expected to pick up your t-shirt during volunteer check in between the hours of 9:30am and 3:30pm.

Please report to your assigned volunteer station 10 minutes prior to your shift start time. Be ready and able to work.

If you need assistance with anything during your shift, there will be a manager located at each volunteer station (except ADA area and Security) to direct and assist volunteers. In addition, any HAMF staff member with a walkie-talkie will be able to call security for assistance.

You cannot change your volunteer position once you have been assigned, but please note that we reserve the right to move volunteers to different locations as needed. Your volunteer shift time will not change.

In years past, we provided a brief orientation a week before the festival to interested volunteers. The orientation contained information regarding volunteer position duties and provided a chance for volunteers to familiarize themselves with the layout of the festival.
